GC2:CS – World map

I have told everything about the map last time (sorry again for the delay!), now I can show you some early screenshots.

The next GemCraft will have a large map again, similarly to GC1 and GC0, but with many differences.

You will start the game with one hexagonal map tile, and the whole map will unfold one piece at a time as you progress on your journey.
The tiles you can see in the screenshots will surely still change a lot, with paths, plants and story-related elements added.
(To make the file size smaller, the whole map is drawn by the game when it starts up, using a “map script”, which also makes it easy to change the map during development.)

A few words about the buttons on the right:

  • The main menu button is hidden in the options screen.
  • The tutorial button will disappear automatically after a while, but if you miss anything, it can be reached again from Options.
  • In contrast to GCL, skills will be accessible from the map, the game will not force you to go through the skills panel every time you select a field. (the button will remain there though, so you can adjust your skills after picking the field.)
  • In addition to the GC0-GCL style “story panels” that tell about the major milestones of your journey, there will be additional morsels of info given about the world (Where is everyone? Where are these monsters coming from? Who is the Forgotten? What about the gems, wizards, the Spiritforge, the Gem of Eternity?), if you’re interested in the details, you can read all these in the “Lore scripts” section. If not interested, the game won’t bother you with all these.
  • “Stats” is renamed to “Numbers”. (I googled on “stats” one day and saw it’s mostly used in RPG games to describe the attributes of the player’s character (such as dexterity, vitality etc) rather than its activity statistics (like, number of enemies killed), so probably the universal “numbers” fits this content more).
