GC2:CS features – Breakables, drops

If you have ever played hack ‘n’ slash dungeon crawler games (Torchlight, Path of Exile, Diablo), you are surely familiar with the concept of crates, jugs, barrels all over the place that are only waiting for you to crush them so that they can pour the floor with loot.

Back in GC0, this concept was there in a very simplistic form; small buildings and stone piles, some of which hid collectable lost amulets.

Now, in GC2, they are called “drop holders”, and come in a larger variety. They don’t have hit points or armor, instead they demand a certain grade of gem bomb to be dropped on them, in order to reveal the loot they hide.

What kind of loot, you might ask… there are no such things as gold coins, elven boots or plated armor in GC… well, true, not exactly such things, but…

Drop holders can drop:

  • Mana
  • XP
  • Bonus to mana multiplier
  • Bonus to XP multiplier
  • Gems
  • Sparks
  • Talismans
  • Shadow cores

Without going into details (later posts will be dedicated to them), first, instead of amulets, there will be achievements and talismans. Achievements will work similarly to the old amulets (but with some twists), you can earn them by accomplishing some exceptional goals. Talismans, however, will be collectable and equippable items, giving you various bonuses.

Shadow cores will be a versatile resource, fueling many powerful game elements, these will be primarily dropped by shadows (powerful demonic minions of the Forgotten) as you slay them (and you can expect to meet many, many shadows in this chapter), but you can also find them by crushing drop holders.
