We still need a few days to finish everything critical to the release.
I won’t go into details now, let’s finish the game first and later I’ll write about how exciting these last few weeks were.
I won’t read comments or reply to them in this last few days, but after the release.
Thanks for staying with us, I hope we can all celebrate in a few days!
GCL: A few more days

first they said 31.january

then a few day
then will come one day
then less then one day
after that less than 24hours
and then???
release this fkin shit or stfu
And I thought Peter was overreacting when he was talking about how he doesn’t like giving any dates because of the stress that people put on him…
please don’t make it after the next week. 9001 minutes are passing only in this day for me, i am losing the love that i have with games, i am not animated. please make it this monday.
I AM GOING TO DIE NOW!
OMG HURRY, THIS GUY IS NOT ANIMATED ANY MORE!!!1!!!111! Holy shit, this guy must be real =O
Shit just got REAL.
Now, this has to be the most idiotic and rude comment yet. Cant you think of anything else? Man, its just a GAME! Go and hang out with your kindergarten friends or go to the playground. Go and pick mushrooms in the forest with your parents. I cant believe how can you be so impatient. You should be more polite with the guy whos making your game, and not “stfu” him… Learn some manners.
You know, I’m going to have to assume that Peter actually delayed the game for real reasons, just as he said, and not just to make the kids mad.
Yes it’s delayed. What else is new? Delays happen on almost every big game, as was mentioned above. The bigger the game, the more prone to delays it is. In fact the only era where there weren’t delays was back when all the games were coming out of Japan, and delays weren’t needed for International localization of games that were already out.
If you’re complaining about the delays and meme-ing “FFFFFUUUUU” right now, chances are you’re a spoiled child who has been coddled all your life. You’ve never held a job, you don’t know how the real world works, and you’ve never tried to create anything that other people expect to be near-perfect (because let’s be honest, you’re going to complain about every little bug, too).
There’s a concept that is seemingly lost on kids these days, due to their percpetion that they are ENTITLED TO EVERYTHING THEY WANT, FREE AND NOW. And God help the person who tells them they can’t. “If you don’t release it soon I’m going to die. I’m not going to love you anymore, or love GCL, and I’m not going to pay you for your work but steal it off a torrent. How dare you be so mean to me?” A generation of Veruca Salts, and I weep.
The concept is that you only get what you pay for, and only when the person who creates it sees fit to give it to you. It’s basic consumerism. You don’t walk into a produce store, steal a green banana, and on your way out shout at the store owner that it’s his fault the banana isn’t ripe. I believe you’d get a wuppin’ for that. But….this is the internet, and maturity isn’t a prerequisette, apparently.
I currently moderate the Minecraft forums and see it all the time. Notch (Minecraft’s creator) takes a two-week vacation from developing the game and our active user-base explodes with vehemence. It’s pretty appalling. “How dare he rest from providing me with this game I paid for?” Even though the price paid was for the GAME AS IS (as it is with any product), Notch is kindly providing everyone who has pre-bought the game with all future updates for free.
But Minecraft is a lot like GC0 and hopefully GCL, in that I’m getting a LOT more enjoyment out of the few $ I spend than from most of the $50 games bought in a store. Heck, GC0 came out in 2009 and I still play it regularly. I can’t say that about ANY of my single-player console games, can you?
So it takes more time to develop. Is it really the end of the world? No. Is Peter a terrible person making us wait for his own amusement? No. There are other games to play and other things to do. Read, play outside, have a career, be with your familly, etc. The “entitled” kids will say “tl;dr” and keep complaining. The rest of us, which are actually the mostly-silent majority, will keep checking for the release but know that it’ll be done when Peter says it’s done. As it should be.
here here!
kudos to you for this post
I very much agree with you. All the people that are complaining are just going to give Peter a headache and delay the process more. I am glad that he has decided not to review or respond to any of the posts until he has delivered the product. This will reduce much of his stress and hopefully shut some of the complainers up. If you want the game wait patiently, if you are going to be complaining then get off the site and leave everyone else to their happy business.
“you don’t know how the real world works”
of course, in the real world, a good way to sell something is by showing a clear lack of professionalism, doing everything possible to tell them nothing about what they will be buying, and generally disappointing your fan base. I guess that must be what you would call “basic consumerism”
And if you don’t get enjoyment out of your $50 console games, then you shouldn’t buy them. I have plenty of console games that i still get enjoyment out of years after I have bought them.
I explained what “basic consumerism” is. A good way to sell something is by providing a good product. What you’re describing is your own percpetion of Peter’s professionalism, which is different.
It sounds like you want to be coddled. You want to be given what you want and told everything is going to be ok. You deserve GCL because you plan to pay for it, and that makes Peter beholden to you. If he isn’t, he’s a jerk and doesn’t deserve your money, but you still deserve the game. Obviously, how you feel and what you want is more important than Peter making the game as he sees fit. You’d want a release to please you, even if it’s half broken, and you want constant contact, media, and feedback from him because you’re oh-so important.
That may be an exaggeration, but it’s a pretty common attitude these days. Somehow the “fan-base” has gotten the idea that they have some power over the game makers. Arrogance. Entitlement. Ego. If you feel strongly enough about the game that you post publically about it here, naturally you’re more important than everyone else. Forget the VAST MAJORITY who never come on here, but who will pay just as much as you will for the game.
We’re so spoiled these days, the internet providing every detail of an upcoming game possible, and we somehow feel slighted if we’re denied any of it. I doubt you remember or were probably even alive back when we were lucky if a game had a Nintendo Power preview, which would be the ONLY way we’d know about an upcoming game. Personally, I think Peter has done pretty well, teasing enough to get people interested, but not revealing so much about the game that we’re experts upon release.
As for “disappointing his fan base,” all you have to do is look at the numbers. 245 responses here mixed support and complaint. 19 MILLION plays of GC0, and that’s just on Armor Games. Call it what you want, a few disappointed users here aren’t going to affect his GCL sales at all.
This was a longer reply than I intended, but your response is really just a whine that you’re feeling slighted, IMO, and I have no respect for that.
Yes, we are coddled. Yes, we do expect to receive a lot of info about a game. Yes, we get angry about delays because we expect things to go as planned. But the correct response isn’t to say that this isn’t necessary.
You say that we’re spoiled, and that’s probably true. But that doesn’t mean that that game creators shouldn’t try to please the majority who are spoiled. That’s akin to saying that people today are spoiled by governments that try to help them and that no-one should complain if an oppressive regime takes control because that was what happened in the past. The wants of today, not yesterday, should be thought about.
And yes, the game will probably have no less plays then before. The game will have probably the same amount of purchases. But an accurate measure should have been given. Within days of release, it is highly unlikely that a game is unforseeably delayed twice, one of which is for an indeterminate amount of time. Games have been delayed, but that occurs months or years before release. I play Starcraft 2 and am used to frequent delays from Blizzard. But within a few days of release, a designer should know if a game would be ready.
I disagree. Both Peter and Notch are horrible, horrible people. 😉 For a grand total of $25, the two of them have managed to occupy ALL of my free time, and even some that isn’t. Between Minecraft and GemCraft, holy cow…SUCH time sinks.
Truly two amazing indie games. These guys deserve everything that they get.
As for your comment on “entitled” whiners – Spot on, man 🙂
I have to admit though – the only reason why I don’t mind waiting for GCL right now is because I have Minecraft 😉
Amen brother … all the waa-waa & on the opposite end the blind support.
Let the free market do the yin & yang thing … those that are really PO-ed about the delayed release won’t buy the premium version, which let us be honest: it is a fraction of a fraction of a percent of all those who will ever play the game. The blog just provides a convenient & easy circuit to vent frustrations of the extreme of this group.
More than likely, Peters game will generate a considerable income for him, just like it should. This is the third reiteration of this particular game, and he is long overdue for just compensation. In fact, I dare say that said compensation will encourage him to further develop the series for future chapters.
Delayed for a few weeks, big friggin’ deal. I’ve been waiting on D3 for years now; am I to throw a fit and declare that I’ll never purchase and play the game? That’s just childish. It’s a shame to see where the evolution of our species is heading 🙁 well, at least the youth, which is indirectly the future. Grow up you little brats!
You have said it all with much more eloquence than I ever could have. The entitlist whiners were making ME go FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUU!
With all due respect, you are sidestepping the issue and lumping every person here with a gripe into a general category.
Yes, the game will have a free mode as well as premium content for a fee. That doesn’t mean there isn’t an entire supply chain worth of people making money off of me sitting there playing watching ad’s.
That completely aside, a lack of professionalism is shown with every delay. There are problems, delays, unforeseen details in every project, absolutely. ~~ And any project manager will take these into account. At least he doesn’t show contempt for his fan base, he merely ignores most of them. Understandable in my opinion.
I am a programmer for a small company, and we are all recommended to stop working every now and then to rest our minds of monotonous code. During that time we are supposed to do write-ups, paperwork, and blog posts. It almost seems as if Peter here is doing everything in his power to prevent people from getting excited about his game. No details, no updates, no new screen shots, nothing. If he were to take 5 minutes and post a spoiler, screen, or just say “Hi, my mind melted an hour ago, how are you all?” As simple as that and the majority of the kids here would literally cream themselves because they believed they were a part of something bigger than themselves. They had ‘insider’ information! They’d tell their friends.
So yes the self entitled whining brats here can STFU, but locking yourself in a closet and refusing to discuss your super secret GCL project is, once again in my opinion, not what the web is all about.
Game in a bottle has thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect followers. We should be with Peter, and try and give him support and strength. But it’s hard to do, and almost impossible to ask of someone who has no real idea what they are supporting or connection to what is going on.
Let the guy make his game, rather than asking him to keep his website up to date. I prefer him to be working rather than answering to the moaners. Game delayed. Fact! get over it! lol
If I made it sound like I was lumping all the griping into one category, then I’m sorry. My point was directed at those whining about the delay just because it’s a delay.
Other issues like communication are a different issue, however I would venture the opinion that Peter is perfectly within his rights to market and reveal as much or as little as he wants. There IS something to be said for surprise, which is another thing that no one seems to want anymore. All I needed to know is that another GemCraft is coming out. That was enough to sell me.
Here, here, man. I’m not upset over the fact that he’s not serving the game up so much as I am over the fact that he seems disinterested in his audience. I do creative work for a living, and it sucks when deadlines have to be missed, but at the very least you need to touch base and let the people know what the deal is and how much you’re looking forward to sharing your work with them.
Im proper looking forward to playing this when its out. Ive just split with my missus and need something to do for a while. lol.
It is annoting it gets delayed every week but i’m sure the overall project will be good. I wish he would just release it though and update to version 1.1, 1.2 etc in the comming weeks instead
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
Uh, that was not me. What a moran.
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
I guess we have a guy who decided to decided to use different usernames to spread hate.
I waited 10 freakin’ years so i can wait a few more days for this game. Now stop bitching, the game will be finished when finished not a second later.
The only thing i’d like is to have more information about what is happening. But people don’t get eveything they want.
GC is a great game and in the end that’s what matter.
I’m dislexic forgot to end the phrase… 10 years for SCII sorry for double post
*checks blog* 10 mins later *check blog* and again and again and again! lol i love the game, cant wait!
I’ve been checking over and over, too. And checking armorgames just in case, over and over.
And suddenly, armorgames is down. No maintenance message, no error message, just a ‘too long to respond,’ as though a million rabid gemcrafters pounced on their server….
probably wishful thinking.
haha im sure it was just us both destroying the site with over-use
I noticed that too… and was hoping that it was because the game got posted and lots of people were hopping on and just caused it to crash, but in retrospect, I don’t think so many people would know it was up fast enough to cause the site to crash.
Play Epic battle fantasy 1 or 2 or 3 while you wait. It will be done, when it’s done
great idea
Anyone know what the price will be for the premium version?
I really am hoping for the release to happen today, but am starting to think not. Just checked ArmorGames for the 5th time today (can’t help it).
I’m sure it will be worth the wait, but the anticipation is driving me to drink….more than usual 🙂
Why am I here again !!!!!!
If you release this on Saturday, that is the 12th, it will make for such an amazing birthday present.
he’ll probably release it on the 14th – Valentine’s day!
“a few days” is not “a week”…
I am personally hopeing sooner rather than later.
“January 31st” is also not “a few days” after “Feb 7th”.
But oh well. He should just give up setting dates.
I would have to agree with this. Setting dates just makes intolerant fans unhappy when it’s not done in time. Had he never mentioned when he’d release it until he was *absolutely* sure he’d be able to keep it, no one would be sad, because no one expected it out sooner. I mean, just look at the Mardek series by Pseudolonewolf. He originally said that Mardek 3 would be out in 2008. It didn’t hit that deadline. So, Pseudolonewolf was yelled at by impatient fans for *two years* while he was busy making his game. From what I can tell, setting dates is not a good idea *at all*.
i wish there was a sticky+like-button system in the comments, so that the very important posts are always on top
90% of the posts are bullshit
game is done … when its done, kiddys crying around…
Wow, that post was bullshit.
and your post would be at the bottom = )
pff few more days becomes…almost one week till now.. 😛
i can wait anymore….i like GC games too much…and becuse of that im sad that teh release date its postponed again and again 🙁
Well I´m going into Holidays now…I might look again next week but I´m not sure if there´s any sense in doing that knowing it will still not be out. I´m really thinking about if it´s worth to pay…
Still not out? Man!, Bummed out all weekend now 🙁 Might have to cheer myself by purchasing whoppers. Is it true that if u buy the full game they send you some chicken nuggets? that’ll rock! nothing like having some nuggets with a good turret defense game. P.s. Hi Pete, had fun in Brighton last weekend – you owe me a cheese platter!
I heard that supergemming is nerfed (own) but… The best guys (like tasselfoot, he was the 1st one to complete GC0… If he is still playing GemCraft =P) will figure out another way to “crash” GCL. Just by breaking GC0 (supergemming) it’s showed that some people know GC0 better than authors…
…and you could godmode the Final Fantasy games by just doing random battles for hours and hours and hours to grind up. or you could fortify walls in dungeon keeper and leave your imps to mine gems for 3 hours before starting a level. there’s always ways to break game functionality and call yourself a ‘winner’.
showing you know how to break a game doesn’t mean you know the game better than the authors, it just shows you’re the kind of person that isn’t interested in the challenge put forward by the game.
all these n00bs whining
and intelligent people take the time to lecture on maturity?
doesn’t it make more sense to “let them whine”? Doesn’t the game sell the same either way?
seems like a waste of intelligent people’s time, productive man hours lost! who are you going to change? you going to type them into submission?
People that actually need the maturity lecture ignore it
Mature people read it(at loss of their time) and agree
Who benefits really?
and yes, by my logic, I’m “wasting” my time too, but aren’t we all, sitting on a free game’s blog, complaining, yelling at complainers, at yelling at the people who complain at the complainers? Quick, somebody complain at me, waste more time! If we do that the game will come out!
Yes, it’s just a wasteful venting. I never expected anything to be accomplished by it.
oh, I guess all people who are upset because he delays it more and more are happy to hear that they are “out of brain”!
Can´t we just stop flaming?
LOL Van, absolutely. I’m sure LWK, same to myself, is really just wasting time here posting long replies as an excuse to keep the window open on our computer. We’re all excited for it, we just show it in different ways.
A watched pot never boils, but have you ever tried yelling at the pot? Calling it names? Discussing philosophy with it? Who knows…
Damn, did it again, wasted more time 🙂 .
is the idea that the watched pot never boils objective or subjective? or is it metaphysically subjective but epistemologically objective? http://instruct.westvalley.edu/lafave/subjective_objective.html
Yay for wasting time! 😀 Let’s waste some more. 😀 Besides, it’s something more fun to do than sit here and refresh the page in impatience, thinking it’s probably not going to be out for a few hours, if not a few days.
If I were Peter, I’d put a post up saying “Gemcraft goes live in 1 hour!” and then release it in March. It would serve the whiners right.
Be grateful I am not Peter.
Or you could say it goes up in an hour then wait a decade. More fun that way.
I’m now just thinking of the blog comments section as the biggest, slowest, least efficient chat program ever.
On a more serious tone, I am completely colorblind. So having to hover the mouse over a gem to see what color it is got annoying. I only hope that GCL has not added too much complexity to the color scheme or shades of gem, etc… Really slows me down.
I think they allow pausing in the next game, which should allow you more time to read the colors. Too bad it will still be slow ;/. I hope there is a faster way to do combines. All the clicking required to make high grade gems makes me want to cry.
The GC series provided me with more fun for a much longer time than most 50€ titles from game stores, so just fucking wait for this awesome free to play piece of genius generosity and stfu urself
There was better to write – not few days – but few weeks – then i don’t look here every day and hour.
its gonan be awesome! 🙂
>.<
they mentioned not releasing it on a friday before due to armorgames folks not being in office over weekend for updates, so id suspect a monday release.
I hope so.
Anyone who spends as much time obsessing about something this unimportant as you dumbasses does not deserve to live.
Anyone who can take the time to check this thread and not take the time to write in proper grammar does not deserve to live.
It should be: “Anyone who spends as much time obsessing about something this unimportant, as you dumbasses do, does not deserve to live.”
Maybe next week you should stay after school on Friday and get some extra help from your English teacher.
Wow, calm down. We really don’t need a bunch of grammar Nazis lurking all over this blog. Anyone who makes comma errors “does not deserve to live”? That’s harsh. Why don’t you go learn some morality instead of criticizing people’s grammar.
Wow, calm down. We really don’t need a bunch of people who don’t understand basic sarcasm or the mocking tone implied by mimicry lurking all over this blog. Anyone who repeats an outrageous phrase from an original post in order to show how outrageous it is needs to learn some morality? That’s harsh. Why don’t you go learn some reading comprehension and basic critical thinking instead of criticizing people’s morality.
Ok, I was only complaining because you even bothered to rudely comment on someone’s trivial grammar error. And is copying people’s sentence structures exactly WORD FOR WORD really all you know how to do? I have an idea. Let’s both shut up about this argument because this type of stuff really does not belong on this blog.
Wow, calm down. We really don’t need a bunch of people who don’t understand basic sarcasm or advanced level sarcasm usually reserved for the top tiers of the reading comprehensive elite. Generally the mocking tone should be read aloud for others in your college dorm or respective coffee house in the tone of Ben Stein. Ben Stein of course having no morality because of his capitalistic ideals and the fact that I’m pretty sure he eats children in a house made of bread and cake in order to lure them inside. That’s harsh Ben Stein. Why don’t you go and learn some other ways to eat children instead of reading old Grimm’s Brothers fairytales.
Ha Ha countertroll offended more people then troll. how ironic.
Then explain why you’re here. I’d love to hear this story.
Look at above replies. Fucking hilarious.
*yawns* i wish i could play now lol, it has been 6 days lol
1 more day until comments are closed and the silence is back 😛
He said that Armor Games (I think it was them) doesn’t work weekends, so we’ll have to wait until Monday.
At least.
*sigh* I really am trying to be patient, but it’s getting to be pretty difficult…
Yeah, Im being patient, but defining “a few days” I would say, in general, means five days or less. I guess it just makes sense now if it is released Monday.
Be patient! (myself included, checking this page 3 times a day)
*channels frustration into artistic expression*

Do do do… comments will close soon an then what will we do when we cant vent.
*sad face*
men don t be … just read the title is one more week …
